Bavaria has the second highest proportion of men in Germany
Bavaria is the federal state with the second highest proportion of men in Germany. According to the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden on Tuesday on the occasion of International Men's Day next Sunday (November 19), there is an average of 981 men per 1000 female inhabitants in Bavaria. At 984 men, the proportion is only higher in Baden-Württemberg, while in Schleswig-Holstein there is an average of just 956 men for every 1,000 women.
In the younger generations, however, there are more men than women: Among 18 to 29-year-olds in Bavaria, for example, there are 1099 men for every 1000 women. One reason for this is that around five percent more boys are born than girls, explained the Federal Office.
However, as women have a longer life expectancy, the picture is changing for the older generations: On average, there are more women than men in the 50+ age groups in Germany, it said. What's more, these age groups are particularly strong and have a significant impact on the overall population due to demographic change. As a result, there were an average of 971 men for every 1,000 women in Germany at the end of 2022. However, the gender ratio varies greatly from region to region and is determined by a variety of factors, according to the office.
The data from the Federal Statistical Office also reveals that Bavaria has one of the highest population statistics with a considerable excess of men, having 981 men per 1000 female inhabitants. Moreover, in the 18 to 29-age group, the population statistics in Bavaria show a significant imbalance, with 1099 men for every 1000 women.
