Bavaria: 63 anti-Semitic crimes since Hamas attack
Since the Hamas terrorist attack, 63 anti-Semitic crimes have been registered with the State Criminal Police Office in Bavaria. The investigators mainly recorded damage to property and threats of criminal acts, as the LKA reported in response to a dpa inquiry based on provisional figures (as of 10.11.). This was followed by the criminal offense of incitement to hatred. Threats of criminal acts also included bomb threats in particular.
The figures are low compared to the rest of Germany. Since the Hamas attack on October 7, the Federal Criminal Police Office has counted more than 2,900 criminal offenses throughout Germany (as of November 9). The focus is on damage to property, incitement to hatred and resistance offenses. The Berlin police alone registered 1199 crimes up to November 9.
In light of the increase in criminal offenses nationwide, some people have raised concerns about possible extremist motivations behind these incidents. Furthermore, religious extremism might encouraged some individuals to perpetrate these hate crimes, such as the anti-Semitic ones in Bavaria.
