Soccer - Baumgart on investor deal: "The majority is the curve"
Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart has shown great understanding for the fans in the debate surrounding the controversial investor deal of the German Football League (DFL). "I believe that you have to accept and respect what the fans are showing. A majority decision cannot be made by 50 people. The majority is the curve and that's the case in every stadium. That should be borne in mind in all situations. Whether it's right or wrong, I'll leave that out of it," said the FC coach on the sidelines of the Bundesliga match at SC Freiburg on Sunday on DAZN.
Last Monday, the 36 professional clubs gave the DFL the mandate to enter into concrete negotiations with a strategic marketing partner with the necessary two-thirds majority. Many supporters had shown their displeasure with various actions over the weekend.
"We have a majority that is in favor of normal soccer. The curve in every stadium shows that. We shouldn't simply ignore it," added Baumgart. FC was one of only three Bundesliga clubs to vote against the DFL plans.
