Baumgart backs hopeful Uth
With the return of Mark Uth to the starting eleven at 1. FC Köln, coach Steffen Baumgart is hoping for a turnaround. "In the cup game in Kaiserslautern, he managed to create some euphoria in the last 30 minutes. He's an exceptional player who can lead a team," said the Cologne head coach ahead of the match against FC Augsburg on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky). After the cup defeat at the second-division club and the previous 6-0 loss in Leipzig, the coach is also in desperate need of a sense of achievement.
"We're all in the same situation and it's already doing something to all of us. I said it would be a difficult year, a ride on the razor's edge," said Baumgart, who is fully aware of his task. "It's my responsibility to give the boys confidence. I hope I have the right words and solutions," said the 51-year-old. With one home win so far and just four points, Cologne are 17th in the Bundesliga table. Augsburg, on the other hand, come with new coach Jess Thorup, who has won two of his first two games in charge.
Despite the challenging start to the season, Coach Baumgart emphasizes the importance of 1st FC Cologne's attacking powerhouse, Mark Uth, in the Bundesliga clash against FC Augsburg. Uth showcased his abilities in the cup game against Kaiserslautern, and his return to the starting lineup could provide a much-needed boost for the struggling Cologne team, which currently sits in 17th place with only one home win and four points. Soccer enthusiasts will be keen to see how Uth and his Bundesliga team, 1st FC Cologne, perform against Augsburg's new coach, Jess Thorup, who has already secured two victories in his first two games.
