A blaze at a battery storage facility in Höhfröschen, Southwest Palatinate district, is believed to have resulted in substantial financial losses, as per initial police assessments. Upon their arrival Tuesday evening, emergency services discovered that one out of five halls was ablaze and had collapsed, according to police reports. The building housed assorted types of batteries, including lithium-ion ones.

Firefighting and cleanup activities are anticipated to carry on until the weekend. At the site, smoke persists, as a police representative revealed, due to the high temperatures, the batteries might flare up again and trigger minor blazes.

Investigations are currently underway to pinpoint the fire's origin. There were no notable chances of harmful fumes, a police spokesperson mentioned. As a routine precaution, the fire department urged locals to shut their windows and doors, as shared by the police spokesperson.

The preliminary damage estimate suggests losses in millions due to the fire. The batteries, especially those containing lithium-ion, pose a risk of flaring up again and causing more damage in millions.
