Bundesliga 2 - Battered "club" wants to show reaction

After two crushing defeats in the 2nd Bundesliga, 1. FC Nürnberg is escaping from its daily routine and is longing for a boost in the DFB Cup. The 0:5 defeat at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday left them speechless. The horror record after the international break: 1:9 goals, zero points. In the DFB Cup round of 16 on Tuesday (18:00) at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, the "Club" wants to turn things around.

"We have the chance on Tuesday to make sure that this game doesn't stay in our heads for so long. But that will only work with a different performance," said midfielder Florian Flick after a memorable afternoon in Franconia.

After a curious break, things went downhill for the "Club"

An injury to referee Hempel's left calf caused an XXL interruption in the first half. In the 26th minute, the referee sent both teams and their support staff to the dressing rooms in frosty conditions; in the 38th minute, the actual fourth official Assad Nouhoum from SC Oberweikertshofen whistled the game back on as a substitute.

From then on, things went rapidly downhill for Nuremberg. "A lot, if not everything, was missing today to be able to win a game in the 2nd division," said goalkeeper Christian Mathenia, criticizing the performance of a team that must have been lost somewhere between the pitch and the dressing room.

Nuremberg are frighteningly harmless

After the unexpected break, Düsseldorf were ice-cold. Vincent Vermeij (39th minute, 45th +3, 56th / penalty), Ao Tanaka (41st) and Jona Niemiec (84th) scored a treble to give coach Daniel Thioune's team their fourth away win of the season. Nuremberg, on the other hand, suffered their next defeat in front of 33,062 spectators a week after their 4:1 defeat at Karlsruher SC.

"We must be disappointed today and rightly question what that was, because it wasn't much," summed up coach Cristian Fiel, whose team continued to be extremely unsure after crosses.

What has happened since the international break?

Fortuna Düsseldorf, on the other hand, were mercilessly effective. In the 43rd minute, the crossbar prevented Isak Johannesson from scoring a fourth goal before the break. "We didn't have a chance today," admitted Fiel. He did not want to dramatize the break since the international break in mid-November. "We didn't perform twice," he said. They were "two bad games from us with zero points".

The club is in danger of losing its good starting position with 21 points before the winter break. "Everyone in the dressing room must be aware that you have achieved this number of points with 100 percent work," Mathenia appealed to his team-mates. Without hard work, "it doesn't work in the 2nd division." And not in the DFB Cup either.
