- Basketball season begins with champions Bayern and Herbert
Two-time champion FC Bayern Munich and World Cup-winning coach Gordon Herbert kick off the new season in the Basketball Bundesliga. The Munich team will face Fiba Europe Cup winners Niners Chemnitz in a home game on September 20, as announced by the BBL in the release of the game schedule. The match will take place at the BMW Park, not the new SAP Garden, which is primarily intended for Euroleague games.
The first round of the BBL Cup will take place the weekend before (September 14 and 15). The BBL also announced other key dates. The BBL Cup Final Four will take place on February 15 and 16. The regular season ends on May 11, followed by the playoffs from May 13 to June 15. At Bayern, coach Herbert succeeds Pablo Laso, who announced his departure after winning the championship and cup.
The BBL released more details about the upcoming season, stating that The Commission shall adopt implementing acts laying down the rules for the application of the league's regulations. In adherence to these rules, the playoffs are scheduled to commence on May 13 and conclude by June 15.
