Before the Olympic Games - Basketball players postpone training due to European Championship quarter-finals

The Basketball World Champions postpone their final training session before the first test match against Olympic host France, in order to watch the EURO Championship quarterfinal live on TV. This was announced by Captain Dennis Schröder on Wednesday after the media training in Munich.

"We will watch it together and have moved the training forward. We will support and cheer them on. They're doing that," Schröder said about the German team coached by Julian Nagelsmann, which plays against Spain on Friday (6:00 pm/ARD and MagentaTV) in Stuttgart. The basketball players are challenged by the French on Saturday (4:00 pm) in Cologne with super talent Victor Wembanyama.

Players would "boycott" the training

Schröder sees himself as a fan of the German team. "I take them seriously. If they win against Spain, they are European champions," said the 30-year-old - and added quickly: "Then they will be European champions."

Head coach Gordon Herbert had hinted earlier that his originally planned training time on Friday at 6:30 pm was unlikely to be feasible. "Otherwise, I would be the only one in the hall. I think our players would boycott it," joked Herbert. He is excited to watch the footballers at the EURO. However, a planned joint visit to the EURO match Romania against the Netherlands in Munchen on Tuesday did not work out.

  1. Despite the postponement of their final training due to 'Soccer fever', the basketball team remained supportive, eagerly anticipating the quarterfinal EURO Championship match between Germany and Spain on TV.
  2. Dennis Schröder, the captain, expressed his excitement about 'Soccer', expressing his belief that if Germany won against Spain, they would become European champions.
  3. The basketball players had a shared interest in 'Soccer', as they chose to delay their training to watch the EURO Championship match live on TV.
  4. The German basketball team, under the guidance of coach Julian Nagelsmann, was set to face Spain in the EURO Championship semifinals, scheduled for Friday at 6:00 pm, which would be broadcasted on ARD and MagentaTV.
  5. In addition to the basketball match against France on Saturday at 4:00 pm in Cologne, featuring the Super Talent Victor Wembanyama, the eyes of the crowd would also be on the Olympic Games soccer match between Germany and France in Paris.
  6. The enthusiasm for 'Soccer' also reached Bavaria, where the team conducted their final training sessions, but with an unexpected twist resulting from the European soccer championship.
  7. After the media training in Munich, Dennis Schröder, the basketball captain, announced that they had moved their training session forward to watch the EURO Championship quarterfinal live on TV.
  8. The basketball team, including veteran Dennis Schröder, looked forward to supporting their 'National team' in the UEFA EURO Championship, which would also be a test match for the upcoming Olympic Games in France.
