Crime - Barrel corpse: First clues to suspect

Following the discovery of a woman's body in a barrel on a balcony in Düsseldorf, the first clues have been received about the missing owner of the apartment. "We are following up a handful of leads. It is still unclear whether this will develop into a hot lead," said a police spokesman on Thursday.

The police have also been searching for 58-year-old Ralf S. in Lower Saxony with photos since Wednesday. This involves the Hanover region and the district of Schaumburg. "He grew up there and has connections there," said the police spokesman.

The Düsseldorf police went to the apartment building on December 5 for a routine operation due to trespassing and discovered an airtight plastic barrel with the body on the man's balcony.

The deceased was a 36-year-old Bulgarian woman. Traces of violence were discovered on her body during the autopsy. The 58-year-old had also been in a relationship with the deceased. The homicide squad is therefore looking for Ralf S. with an arrest warrant on suspicion of homicide.
