Lichtenfels - Barn on fire probably due to lightning strike: cattle rescued
A witness reported the fire on Thursday afternoon via emergency call. Both the barn and the stable burned completely out, but the fire department was able to prevent the flames from spreading to a residential building.
Several people were lightly injured: A firefighter was trampled by a cow, in addition, a resident, a veterinarian, and a firefighter sustained light carbon monoxide poisoning.
The firefighting efforts took several hours, over 250 firefighters were involved. The damage is estimated to be around 500,000 Euros.
The fire reportedly occurred in a farm located in Lichtenfels, a town in Bavaria. The cause of the fire was a lightning strike during an intense storm. Unfortunately, the barn and the stable housing cattle and beef were both destroyed. Despite the challenges, the local fire department from Upper France provided assistance and managed to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby residential buildings.
