Barges on the Upper Elbe again after low water
After five months of low water, cargo ships are once again calling at the ports on the Upper Elbe. In the Alberthafen in Dresden, eleven cargoes with a total of 900 tons were loaded onto two pushed convoys, the operating company SBO announced on Wednesday. The cargoes reportedly included transformers and coolers for machines and rotors, which were shipped to Hamburg, Antwerp and Dorsten in North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to good forecasts for the Elbe water level, further shipments are planned for the port in Dresden. Several transformers are to be shipped to Hamburg and Hanau by the end of November.
The resumption of transportation on the Upper Elbe has also led to an increase in traffic, causing some delays for cargo ships. The shipping industry is closely monitoring the weather forecasts, as heavy rain could potentially disrupt ongoing shipping operations.
