- Banksy is coming back to Hamburg
Banksy is returning to Hamburg. Not the world-renowned British street artist himself, nor any of his original works. Instead, over 150 meticulous reproductions of his most famous creations will be on display, as announced by the organizers of the "House of Banksy – An Unauthorized Exhibition," which will be shown in Hamburg's Große Bleichen starting September 13 after its debut in Munich.
"We aim to make his works and, more importantly, the message behind each of his actions and pieces accessible to the public again," said Oliver Forster, the producer of the exhibition. Around 80 percent of Banksy's works, who has kept his true identity secret for over 20 years, are no longer publicly visible.
Unauthorized Reproductions
Due to the artist's anonymity, the reproductions are also unauthorized, as already indicated by the exhibition title, according to the organizers. Nevertheless, it is said to be "currently the most comprehensive retrospective of his art in the European region."
With the new pop-up exhibition at the corner of Große Bleichen/Jungfernstieg, the organizers hope to replicate past successes: Two years ago, 170,000 people visited the exhibition "The Mystery of Banksy – A Genius Mind" in the Galeria-Kaufhof building on Mönckebergstraße. Worldwide, it is said that 2.5 million visitors attended.
The exhibit, titled "House of Banksy – An Unauthorized Exhibition," is set to feature over 150 unauthorized reproductions of Banksy's famous works, as announced by Oliver Forster, the production lead. Despite being unauthorized, this exhibition is claimed to be the most comprehensive retrospective of Banksy's art in the European region.
