Bank tower smeared with oil: Activist charged
This Monday (13:00), a 54-year-old suspected sympathizer of the climate protection group Letzte Generation (Last Generation) will stand trial in Frankfurt District Court for damage to property. He is alleged to have smeared the Commerzbank high-rise building in Frankfurt city center with oil during a protest last April. According to the public prosecutor's office, the cleaning costs amounted to around 6300 euros. The 54-year-old appealed against a penalty order for a fine of 3000 euros (60 daily rates). The court intends to conclude the trial on one day.
The activist's actions against the Commerzbank building serve as a stark reminder of the processes and methods used by climate protection groups to raise awareness. Meanwhile, the incident has also highlighted the need for stricter regulations to prevent such crimes impacting vital infrastructure, such as the RHEIN-MAIN financial district.
