Berlin-Weißensee - Bank employee saves senior citizen from con artist

With the help of an attentive bank employee, Berlin police have arrested a suspected con artist. The 29-year-old rang the senior citizen's doorbell on Wednesday and demanded a five-figure sum of money that her deceased husband allegedly owed, police said on Thursday. The man drove the woman to a bank in Berliner Allee in the Weißensee district, where she withdrew the money in several installments.

According to the police, the suspect did not take the money at first and demanded more. When the senior citizen tried to withdraw the additional amount, the bank employee intervened and informed the police. The money was deposited back into the senior citizen's account. The police arrested the man near the bank. He admitted to the accusation but showed no awareness of wrongdoing. His car and smartphone were confiscated. The criminal investigation department is investigating.
