Ban on unannounced pro-Palestinian demonstrations extended

In Hamburg, the ban on all unregistered pro-Palestinian rallies that have not been confirmed by the assembly authorities has been extended once again. A corresponding general order from October 15 is now valid until next Wednesday, the police announced. According to the order, gatherings whose content relates to support for Hamas or its attacks on Israeli territory are not permitted.

Demonstrations against the ban took place on Saturday under the slogan "Against restrictions on fundamental rights. For freedom of assembly", up to 750 people took to the streets at peak times, according to police reports. A police spokesperson said on Sunday that the police had ensured that all requirements for speeches and the display of flags and banners were adhered to. The demonstration, which ended in the St. Pauli district, was peaceful.

Despite the extension of the ban on unregistered pro-Palestinian demonstrations, conflicts between protesters and police continued to arise. On several occasions, the police had to intervene to maintain order during the demonstrations.
