People - Bamberg Symphony retains conductor Jakub Hrůša until 2029
Jakub Hrůša will remain Chief Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra until at least 2029. This was announced on Friday by Bavarian Minister of the Arts Markus Blume (CSU) and the orchestra's Artistic Director Marcus Rudolf Axt.
The 42-year-old has extended his contract until the end of the 2028/2029 season: "We have so many great plans together that several lifetimes would not be enough to put them into practice. For this and many other reasons, I feel fortunate that we have chosen the path of continuing to be such a wonderful team and that I will extend my tenure in Bamberg for another three years," said Hrůša.
The Czech-born conductor has been leading the symphony orchestra since 2016, giving it "sound and soul", said Blume. "The fruits of this inspiring partnership can be seen in countless outstanding and moving musical moments that delight audiences in Bavaria and far beyond."
Director Axt praised the successful connection between orchestra and conductor: "Many international prizes for joint CD projects demonstrate this, as do the sold-out concerts in Bamberg and the numerous invitations from our "world orchestra" to the world's leading concert halls and festivals."
