Balingen handball team part ways with Bürkle at the end of the season
Handball Bundesliga club HBW Balingen-Weilstetten is parting ways with its long-serving coach Jens Bürkle on June 30, 2024. "This was an incredibly difficult decision for all of us, and one that we did not take lightly," said managing director Felix König in a statement released by the club on Wednesday. Bürkle had shaped the club in recent years. However, the club also saw a "need for change".
The promoted team is currently bottom of the table. "We will all continue to do everything we can to celebrate our common goal of staying in the league at the end," announced Managing Director König for the coming months.
Bürkle has coached Balingen since 2017, having previously played for them as a player. At the end of last year, his contract was extended until June 30, 2025 - albeit with a mutual option to terminate early. The club has now exercised this option.
Following the club's decision, HBW Balingen-Weilstetten's Handball Bundesliga journey under Coach Jens Bürkle will come to an end on June 30, 2024. Despite having extended Bürkle's contract until 2025 with a mutually agreed termination clause, the team currently lingering at the bottom of the table prompted the club to exercise the option.
