The leader of the Rhineland-Palatinate's CDU, Christian Baldauf, can't picture collaborating with the BSW. He views the Ukraine policy of the Wagenknecht alliance (BSW) as a "solid elimination factor," he shared with the German Press Agency. "CDU and BSW have fundamentally conflicting views. Frankly, I'm struggling to visualize any significant compromises right now."

Baldauf takes a different stance on the Left Party. He views it as no longer the Left we knew, but rather "slightly left-leaning SPD." In his opinion, the CDU should discuss the compatibility issue with the Left. "I'm quite forthright about that," said Baldauf. However, the alliance with the AfD is off the table. "It's a no-go. The AfD remains untouchable. Cooperation with a far-right extremist party remains taboo."

During the state elections in Thuringia and Saxony on Sunday, the AfD and the BSW emerged as the major victors. In Thuringia, the AfD even surpassed the CDU as the leading force. The Wagenknecht alliance (BSW) managed to secure double-digit votes in both states from scratch. Therefore, a challenging coalition formation is anticipated in both Erfurt and Dresden, with the BSW playing a pivotal role.

Baldauf, after acknowledging the BSW's success in the recent state elections, stated, "I'm not going to sugarcoat it, collaborating with the BSW right now seems improbable given our contrasting views." Despite this, he expressed a different outlook regarding the Left Party, saying, "I'm not going to mince words, I see the Left Party as having shifted significantly to the left of the SPD, making a dialogue on compatibility necessary."
