Currently, Aldi, Edeka, and Metro are affected. The cause is the high level of inflation, which is evident not only in consumers' wallets.

More and more companies are unable to bear the increased expenses and are filing for bankruptcy. Now it's the time for companies in the food trade.

Bakery retail chain warns of bankruptcy: Aldi and other supermarkets affected

In the first half of this year, more bankruptcies were registered than ever since 2002.

This is primarily due to increased costs of electricity and raw materials. Changes in interest rates and the crisis caused by the coronavirus are also impacting the trade.

The company Intercookies24 from Osnabrück is forced to file for bankruptcy. This company sells long-lasting bakery and confectionery products from other manufacturers and develops product range ideas in the food retail sector.

Consumers can find these products in local supermarkets and discount stores. Intercookies24's clients include Aldi, Edeka, and the wholesale company Metro. Popular products include hamburger buns, cookies, pastries, and snacks.

Customers may be familiar with two brands, 'The 4 Bakers' and 'Genuss Mafia,' from Intercookies24. The company also sells many products under its own private label in Aldi and Edeka. There is a demand for these products among certain consumers.

The bankruptcy petition has already been filed. As explained to the grocery newspaper by the managing director, Günter Niemeyer, the 'sudden change in prices and demands for reduction' from the food retail sector are the main reasons for the current imbalance.

Consumers still hope that the popular bakery products will remain in supermarkets. Initially, it is planned that the operations of Intercookies24 should continue without restrictions. Therefore, supermarket shoppers should not expect a reduction in the assortment of bakery products in the near future.

The company successfully went through bankruptcy proceedings back in 2013. However, from 2019 onwards, the organization has been experiencing losses again.

The outcome of the current bankruptcy procedure will be known in the coming months.

Despite Intercookies24's bankruptcy filing, their products, such as hamburger buns and cookies, will continue to be sold in Aldi, Edeka, and Metro for now. The managing director, Günter Niemeyer, cited sudden price changes and demands for reduction from the food retail sector as the main reasons for the company's current predicament.

The outcome of Intercookies24's bankruptcy procedure is yet to be determined in the coming months, but their clients, including Aldi, Edeka, and Metro, hope to continue offering their popular bakery products to their customers.
