European Union votes - Baerbock urges voters and cautions against a rightward shift.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock encouraged people to vote in the upcoming European election on June 9th to prevent a conservative shift. During a party gathering in Potsdam during the European election campaign on Wednesday, she emphasized, "If I don't vote, then it's stinky. Then it's brown." Then, making a surprising analogy, Baerbock said, "Just like when you have to choose which detergent to use and not wash your clothes, they will get dirty and stink. Similarly, in democracy, we must keep it clean and functioning."
She reminisced about the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and cautioned against allowing right-wing forces to taint 35 years of peaceful revolution. In her address, she advocated for the defense of democracy, peace, and freedom.
Baerbock also addressed the recent Israeli airstrike in the southern region of Gaza Strip, asserting that the act lacked humanity. "The dignity of every person, every child matters - regardless of where they reside or where they were born," she declared. As reported by the Hamas-controlled health authority, at least 45 people lost their lives, and several others were injured in the Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp on Sunday night. The Foreign Minister committed to lobbying for humanitarian aid in Gaza, declaring, "It might be challenging, but I will not give up." She vowed to continue her efforts to secure the release of Israeli hostages currently held captive by the Islamist Hamas.
