Bad luck with injuries: Polar Bears without Wissmann and Byron for weeks
The Eisbären Berlin will have to do without several players in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) in the coming weeks. Captain Kai Wissmann will be out for up to eight weeks after suffering a muscle injury, as the club announced on Wednesday. In addition, forwards Blaine Byron, Eric Hördler and Manuel Wiederer will not be available.
Byron will also miss around eight weeks following a ligament injury, while Hördler will have to take a break for the time being after suffering a slight bruise to his skull. Wiederer will be out for at least the coming weekend, while Ty Ronning's participation will be decided at short notice. The Eisbären will host Düsseldorfer EG on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and the Iserlohn Roosters two days later (2 p.m., both at Magentasport).
To make up for the shortfalls, the DEL league leaders have licensed their young forward Clemens Sager. The 17-year-old forward has scored seven goals and set up a further seven goals in 18 games in the junior league so far.
Despite Blaine Byron's ligament injury, he shares the same recovery timeline as team captain Kai Wissmann in the DEL. Meanwhile, Polar Bears Berlin will be temporarily without their forward Eric Hördler, who is nursing a slight skull bruise.
