In the drinking water network of the Steinheim district in the town of Hungen, coliform bacteria have been detected. Consequently, the public health department of the Gießen district ordered a chlorine disinfection of the water, as announced by the district. For healthy individuals, these bacteria pose no threat, the authority explained. The health department advised immunocompromised persons to avoid contact of open wounds with the drinking water.

The local water utility, Stadtwerke Hungen, is reportedly initiating a chlorine disinfection. This may temporarily cause changes in the smell and taste of the drinking water. The water utility will provide information on current developments starting from this Monday (12th August).
