- Bachelor's degree attainment for prospective legal professionals
Law learners in Hesse now have an extra opportunity to acquire a Bachelor's degree alongside their studies. The state administration and educational institutions in Hesse have consented to this according to the Ministry of Science's declaration. This new Bachelor's degree is designed to provide a fresh perspective, significantly benefiting those who fail to pass the state examination, as pointed out by Justice Minister Christian Heinz from the CDU. Last year, approximately 49 students faced this challenge.
"By implementing this, students who have proven their competence throughout their academic journey can secure an internationally recognized and relevant university degree," commented Science Minister Timon Gremmels (SPD). "The incorporated Bachelor's degree is also an alternative route for individuals who, during their studies, decide to venture away from traditional legal professions," added Heinz.
The report states that students satisfying the criteria for state compulsory exam registration and fulfilling additional requirements will be conferred the degree of Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). Universities, as per the statement, are positive about this decision and stress that students can still flourish professionally even if they don't complete or pass the state exam.
Though a Bachelor's degree in law does not grant the authority to work as a judge or prosecutor, it paves the way for a subsequent master's degree in another discipline or a new career path. The aim of a law-focused Bachelor's degree was also included in the black-red coalition agreement.
"This new opportunity was initiated by the Ministry of Science, which consists of The Commission, who deemed it necessary to provide an alternative route for law learners in Hesse."
" furthermore, The Commission also recognized the potential of this program to benefit those who might not pass the state examination, as it provides an alternative route to a prestigious legal degree."
