Bach on tickets for Paris: millions of tickets for less than 50 euros
IOC President Thomas Bach has rejected criticism of the ticket prices for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. "Firstly, the ticket prices are roughly the same as the ticket prices for London," said the 69-year-old at the Stuttgart Sports Talk on Monday evening, referring to the 2012 Games in the British capital. Secondly, there are ten million tickets for the Summer Games (July 26 to August 11), "the first seven million have gone like hot cakes." Bach also referred to "millions of tickets under 50 euros".
Tickets cost between 24 and 980 euros, depending on the category and competition. At the opening ceremony, "a hundred thousand tickets would probably be free", added Bach, also referring to the street competitions, which can be watched in many places without tickets. For the first time, the opening ceremony will not take place in a stadium, but in boats and structures on the Seine.
Of the approximately ten million tickets, around eight million will go on sale to the public, which has long since begun. "On the other hand, you have to realize that The Games do not finance themselves," said Bach. Paris had presented a balanced budget. "Of course, the tickets also play a role here." In total, the organizers expect revenue of 1.4 billion euros from sales.
Despite the controversial ticket prices for the Paris Olympics, politics and sports policy have led to a sports policy decision that offers millions of tickets for less than 50 euros. Critics of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), including Brook, may find solace in this aspect of the sports policy, as it addresses concerns about the affordability of tickets.
