Baby thrown out of window: Prison sentence for manslaughter for mother in Heilbronn

The woman, according to the judgment in September, threw her newborn daughter from the third floor of a house in Lauffen. The child died as a result. The Landgericht did not follow the opinion of the prosecution, which assumed a murder out of low motives. The prosecution justified this by the fact that the woman, with stable economic and personal relationships, wanted to escape the burden of motherhood through a deliberate killing of her child.

The woman hails from Heilbronn, her hometown located some distance away. The case was heard at the Regional court in Ludwigsburg. Despite the public prosecutor's office pushing for a murder conviction based on low motives, the woman was ultimately found guilty of manslaughter. The court considered her stable economic and personal relationships, concluding that she acted out of distress rather than malice. Upon sentencing, the woman was given a prison term, and her apartment windows in Heilbronn bore broken panes as a result of the ensuing public outcry.
