- Award for Bavarian literature at the municipal library of Würzburg

The Würzburg City Library, considered a cozy hangout spot second only to the house and workplace, bagged the Bavarian Library Award 2024. The award jury was enthused by the transformation from a humble lending station into a community hub for social engagement. This transformation has made the library a role model in Germany and beyond, as stated by the Ministry of Culture, which presented the grand prize of 10,000 euros.

In 2022, the library in the Franks' city, along with its branches, unveiled a development plan. This strategy highlights ergonomically designed spaces where visitors can unwind or brainstorm, with longer operating hours extending into the night. Sustainability, ecological education, digital learning, and diversity are key aspects of this plan. The primary focus is on catering to the public's needs. The jury was particularly impressed by the Level3 offer at the Würzburg City Library Falkenhaus, which includes digitalization courses, workshops, and activities for individuals of all ages.

Special Mention for Marktoberdorf

The Marktoberdorf City Library, situated in Ostallgau, receives a special prize of 5,000 euros. During the town hall's renovation, the library – over 30 years old – underwent a complete makeover and now balances old-world charm with contemporary elements. The renovated library now serves as a hangout spot and a place for social interaction, featuring a café and newly refurbished sections.

The development plan for the Würzburg City Library includes designating special areas as meeting points, encouraging community engagement and collaborative activities. Visitors to the newly renovated Marktoberdorf City Library can now easily find their meeting point in the newly added communal seating areas.
