Avalanche warning service report: More snow announced

In view of the winter weather, the avalanche warning center has published the first avalanche situation report of the season for the Bavarian Alps. This is valid until Friday and will then be published daily again, the Bavarian State Office for the Environment announced in Augsburg on Tuesday. The service, which is always published at 6 p.m., serves winter sports enthusiasts as an important tool for planning their activities in alpine terrain, showing the current avalanche problems and danger levels, as well as the snowpack structure and the extent and distribution of danger spots in the terrain.

In addition, measurement data and webcams provide information on the general snow and weather situation. The report is also available on a newly designed website or can be subscribed to by email.

In the Bavarian Alps, half a meter to one meter of fresh snow has fallen in recent days, often on warm ground at medium altitudes. "Sliding snow avalanches on slippery grassy slopes are the result," it said. Medium-sized avalanches could be triggered in drifting snow at high altitudes.

After widespread snow or sleet on Tuesday, it is only expected to snow a little in some areas in the north of Bavaria on Wednesday, according to the German Weather Service. Friendly weather was expected for southern Bavaria. However, it will remain cold. According to the forecast, it will snow again in many places in Bavaria on Thursday and Friday.

During their leisure time, many winter sports enthusiasts closely monitor the avalanche warning reports for the Bavarian Alps, as the weather conditions can greatly impact their Alpine activities. With more snow announced, they need to be extra cautious as sliding snow avalanches could occur on slippery grassy slopes.
