- Automobile Manufacturer Stands Firm on Refusing American Arms
The BSW's founder, Sahra Wagenknecht, maintains her hard-lined stance towards a future Thuringian government involving BSW, with regards to the deployment of American weaponry in Germany. "We anticipate a Thuringian administration - and we'll ensure this if we're part of it - to oppose this," Wagenknecht declared at a rally in Jena, where she was greeted with approval and cheers from countless attendees.
She claimed that the backing she's receiving for her Alliance is already impacting national politics. "The Thuringian election will determine whether missiles arrive," she informed the crowd.
Following the September 1st state elections in Saxony and Thuringia, surveys suggest that Wagenknecht's new party could play a part in forming the government. In Thuringia, a coalition of CDU, BSW, and SPD currently holds a majority, a possibility that hasn't been dismissed by political figures.
In recent weeks, Wagenknecht has issued a series of prerequisites, such as a negative stance on the proposed stationing of US intermediate-range missiles in Germany. Critics from various parties have lambasted her for imposing conditions that exceed the authority of a state government.
"Which politicians inhabit a world where this isn't an issue in Thuringia?" Wagenknecht questioned in Jena, her hometown. Wagenknecht now resides in the Saarland with her spouse, Oskar Lafontaine.
The coalition of CDU, BSW, and SPD currently holds a majority in Thuringia's Landtag, a potential scenario if the elections result in their favor. If the BSW becomes part of the Thuringian government, as Wagenknecht envisions, they plan to oppose the deployment of American weaponry within Germany, as per her declaration at the Jena rally.
