Following the suspected terrorist attack in Solingen with three tragic deaths, the organizers of the Cannstatter Volksfest are reevaluating their safety plan. "We currently have a robust security strategy in place at the Wasen, and in the coming weeks leading up to the Volksfest opening, we will have in-depth discussions with Stuttgart's city security officials and the police," stated a representative from the event organization in Stuttgart. Undeniably, all preventive measures and checks will consider the Solingen investigations and the present circumstances.
The representative elaborated, "We're closely monitoring the distressing occurrences in Solingen and subsequent investigations. Security has always held significant importance at the Cannstatter Volksfest and is meticulously reviewed each year."
The 177th edition of the Cannstatter Volksfest will commence from September 27 and continue until October 13, situated at the Wasen. Last year, it welcomed approximately 4.3 million attendees. It ranks as the second-largest German folk celebration after the Oktoberfest in Munich.
In Munich, Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) has previously declared that increased security measures will be implemented due to the current situation. This could potentially lead to longer queues at the entry points. "Safety takes priority," Reiter highlighted. The Wiesn is globally recognized as the largest folk festival and draws in several million visitors annually. This year, it will unfold from September 21 until October 6.
The representative from The Commission, overseeing the Cannstatter Volksfest, is considering the Solingen investigations and current circumstances in their reevaluation of the event's safety plan. Following Mayor Dieter Reiter's announcement about increased security measures at Munich's Oktoberfest, The Commission might need to consider potential implications on queue times at the Cannstatter Volksfest entry points.
