Nature's Preservation: Protecting the Earth's Ecosystems - Authorities in Poland discover numerous deceased fish in the Oder river.
Authorities in Poland uncovered a significant amount of deceased fish in the Oder River. Over the course of three days, they were able to remove 600 kilograms of dead fish near the city of Glogow, as reported by the administration of Lower Silesia on Thursday. Fish of various sizes were affected by this incident.
Laboratory examinations will be conducted on samples of the deceased fish and river water to identify the cause of this fish kill. It was also mentioned that the occurrence of the toxic alga Prymnesium parvum has lessened in recent times.
In 2022, there was a widespread incident of fish death in the Oder River. Experts had attributed the environmental tragedy to high salt levels, low water levels, intense heat, and the detrimental effects of a Prymnesium parvum algal bloom.
In Brandenburg, officials have also come across numerous dead fish in the shared German-Polish border river over the past few days. The State Environmental Agency updated the public on Tuesday evening, stating that a proliferation of Prymnesium parvum had been ongoing for several days.
