Authorities announce 155 heat-related fatalities in Mexico from mid-March onwards.
Veracruz, an eastern state, led in fatalities with a heartbreaking 56, as per ministerial announcements. This was closely followed by Tabasco with 18 deaths and Tamaulipas with 17.
A striking report by the World Weather Attribution (WWA) research team indicates a staggering 35-fold rise in the probability of lethal heatwaves in the USA, Mexico, and other Central American nations due to global warming.
The mercury soared in multiple Mexican cities during May. In Mexico City, a scorching 34.7 degrees Celsius was clocked on the 25th of May, breaking the all-time record set since record-keeping started. Now, the 1998 record of 33.9 degrees Celsius was shattered no less than three times this very year alone in the bustling city.
