Author Seiler to be honored with the Georg Büchner Prize 2023
The writer Lutz Seiler will be awarded the Georg Büchner Prize 2023 this Saturday (from 4 p.m.). The novelist and poet will be honored by the German Academy for Language and Poetry with a ceremony at the Staatstheater in Darmstadt. The prize, which is endowed with 50,000 euros, is one of the most important literary awards in the German-speaking world.
Seiler has found his own, unmistakable voice as a novelist and poet - melancholic, urgent, sincere, full of wonderful echoes from a long literary tradition, the jury explained its choice. The laudatory speech will be held by journalist and literary scholar Lothar Müller.
The Academy has been awarding the prize to writers who write in German since 1951. According to the statutes, the prizewinners must "stand out in particular through their work" and "make a significant contribution to shaping contemporary German cultural life". The prize is funded by the federal government, the state of Hesse and the city of Darmstadt.
Seiler's literary work has earned him the prestigious Georg Büchner Prize 2023, making him one of the notable recipients in the history of German literature. This recognition further cements his place among the prominent figures in the German-speaking world's literature scene, as the award is known for honoring outstanding writers.
