- Augsburg's Uduokhai on the brink of relocating to Turkey
Felix Udokhai, FC Augsburg's defender, is on the brink of switching from the Bundesliga to Besiktas Istanbul in Turkey. The 26-year-old was left out of Augsburg's lineup for their 2-2 draw against SV Werder Bremen as he was given permission by the club to negotiate with another team. "I think the transfer will be concluded within the next few days," stated sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
FC Augsburg's manager Jess Thorup discussed a deal between the club and the player, stating that Udokhai wanted to pursue the "next chapter" in his career elsewhere. "He was one of our top performers last season," Thorup noted over the weekend.
Udokhai, who donned the FC Augsburg jersey since 2019, might initially move to Istanbul on loan with a buyout option. According to media reports, Augsburg could receive around 7 million euros in total from the transfer.
No confirmation on Vargas' departure
The transfer window in the Bundesliga stays open until this Friday. Swiss national player Ruben Vargas could still depart from FC Augsburg. "There are potential suitors, but no decisions have been made. It has to work out for all parties involved, similar to Felix (Udokhai)," Jurendic stated. "Ruben still has a year remaining on his contract. We will do everything in our power to aid Ruben in pursuing his desired path."
SV Werder Bremen managed to hold FC Augsburg to a 2-2 draw despite Felix Udokhai's absence, as he was negotiating a move to Besiktas Istanbul.Udokhai's potential departure leaves a gap in Augsburg's defense, given his impressive performances for the club since 2019.
