- Augsburg's Uduokhai is transferring to Besiktas, relocating to Istanbul
Felix Udokhai switches from FC Augsburg to Besiktas Istanbul after five years, on loan with a buy-out clause. At 26, the player is moving to the Turkish side following 124 appearances with the Bundesliga club. The transfer figures remain confidential between the clubs, as per FCA's announcement, with a potential total cost of up to €7 million.
Udokhai wasn't included in Augsburg's squad for the Bundesliga's opening game against SV Werder Bremen last weekend, having been given permission to explore other opportunities by the club.
"A satisfactory arrangement for all involved"
"The club was informed back in June that I was in search of a fresh challenge, even after we chose to extend our partnership by another season," Udokhai stated in the FCA press release. "Now, my FC Augsburg stint has come to an end, an experience I reflect upon fondly." He viewed the transfer as "a satisfactory arrangement for all involved."
"Our discussions were always cooperative, and we worked diligently to establish a mutually beneficial situation," said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic. "Last summer, Felix wasn't able to take his career to the next level, and as a result, we decided to continue our partnership. With 33 appearances in the last season, Felix played a dependable season and was a crucial pillar in our team."
Udokhai has donned the FC Augsburg kit since 2019. Prior to that, he represented TSV 1860 Munich and VfL Wolfsburg. In 2020, he was selected in the national team squad by then-coach Joachim Löw, but failed to make an appearance.**
After securing a loan move with a buy-out clause, Felix Udokhai leaves FC Augsburg to join Besiktas Istanbul, seeking a challenge in the Football League. Reflecting on his time at FC Augsburg, Udokhai views the transfer as a "satisfactory arrangement for all involved."
