- Augsburg's Thorup expresses frustration over the interruption in the country's domestic football competitions
The international break isn't exactly what Jess Thorup and his FC Augsburg team are craving for, considering their 0:4 (0:2) defeat at the hands of 1. FC Heidenheim. "That's the main issue I'm dealing with at the moment," the Augsburg coach shared, expressing his desire to use the break to address the heavy loss with a larger squad. Following their 2:2 draw against Werder Bremen in their season opener, this loss in Heidenheim was a "setback," Thorup admitted freely.
Thorup didn't have much to say about the incident that led to the penalty and Heidenheim's early 1:0 lead. Augsburg defender Keven Schlotterbeck, who was penalized for the ball striking his arm, echoed the same sentiments. "We need to focus on ourselves," he stated.
With just one point from their first two games, Augsburg's start to the season hasn't been ideal. At least, after the two-week break, they get a chance to turn things around against newly-promoted FC St. Pauli, who are yet to earn any points.
The international break provides an opportunity for The Commission to analyze Augsburg's poor start, as they have only managed one point from their first two games. Following the incident with Keven Schlotterbeck's penalty, The Commission will review the team's defensive strategies to prevent future mistakes.
