Verdict - Attempted murder: long prison sentence for 41-year-old man
One year after a serious knife attack on an acquaintance, the Rostock District Court sentenced the 41-year-old attacker to twelve years in prison on Thursday. As a court spokesman announced in the evening, the criminal court, after taking extensive evidence, considered it proven that the accused, who lives in Rostock, was guilty of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm.
With conditional intent to kill and in an insidious manner, he had attempted to kill his acquaintance by stabbing him in the back over a relationship dispute. The verdict is not yet final.
According to the court, the crime took place on December 30, 2022. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries to his chest and lost a lot of blood. His life could only be saved with emergency surgery.
According to the court spokesperson, the criminal division took into account the "alarming disproportion between the alleged cause and the actual execution of the crime" when assessing the sentence. However, the spokesperson did not provide any further details on the reason for the escalating dispute.
