On Saturday night, police responded to a number of emergency calls regarding shots being fired and a knife assault in the city center, as per a statement released on Sunday. At a snack bar, they discovered an injured male. The 49-year-old victim had a stab wound in his lower body and facial injuries, according to the police. He recounted getting into an argument with two males, who then attacked him with a knife and fired a blank-firing pistol at him. The 49-year-old was taken to the hospital. The police confirmed that he had not sustained any life-threatening injuries.
The two suspects, aged 22 and 27, are being investigated for causing dangerous bodily harm and breaching the Weapons Act, police revealed. Specialists were able to gather evidence from the crime scene. Following consultation with the public prosecutor's office, the suspects were freed from police custody on Sunday morning. The police urged anyone with relevant information or video footage to contact the Potsdam police station.
