European Union to Unveil COVID-19 Recovery Plan - At the European elections, Wüst's NRW region reaps significant advantages from the EU.

Hendrik Wüst, the Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, highlighted the significance of the European election and the European Union for his state as he cast his vote. Wüst expressed how his state benefits tremendously from the EU, with more than many other federal states in Germany. "By integrating into Europe, we've transitioned from being a peripheral western location to the center of Europe," he said on Sunday at a polling station in his home town of Rhede, Münsterland.

The EU plays a major role in creating many well-paid jobs in North Rhine-Westphalia. Losing the EU could put half a million jobs at risk. Wüst stressed the importance of this European election as it could potentially determine the course of Europe's future. "With over seventy-five years of peace and freedom ensured through European integration and closer cooperation among European people, this election could make or break our continent's democratic future," he added.

The future of the legacy of Adenauer, Schuman, and Kohl lies in voters' hands. "I sincerely urge and implore voters: Register your voice in history and cast your vote. Engage in shaping the democratic future of this continent and exercise your right to vote," Wüst concluded.

Sunday saw more than 13.8 million people in North Rhine-Westphalia being called to vote for the European election. The voter turnout in North Rhine-Westphalia during the previous European election in 2019 was 61.4%, similar to the federal level.
