After a while, the sound technology adjusted to the acoustics of the hall, and the music of the ensemble filled the room with its mesmerizing beauty. The audience responded with a standing ovation, and were treated to an encore - a piece that Anoushka Shankar had recorded with her half-sister Norah Jones - "Traces of You". Arun Ghosh played the vocal part on his clarinet.

Anoushka Shankar is familiar with Dresden, having played the music for the film classic "Shiraz - A Romance of India" live on the same stage during the Coronavirus pandemic. This 1928 silent film directed by Franz Osten is considered a milestone in Indian cinema, marking the beginning of Bollywood. Anoushka Shankar, the daughter of sitar legend Ravi Shankar, composed the music for the love story about the creation of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Taj Mahal in 2017.

The Dresden Music Festival is renowned as the premiere classical music event in eastern Germany and is taking place this year under the theme "Horizons". With 60 concerts, the attendees have been entertained with an extensive variety of musical choices. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from Amsterdam, conducted by its future chief conductor Klaus Mäkelä, began the festival on May 10th. Rockstar Sting was also in attendance. The festival concludes on Sunday.
