At the Democratic gathering, Biden delivers a speech and passes the torch to Harris.

Just about a fortnight ago, Biden called off his presidential run. At the upcoming convention, Democrats are anticipated to honor his tenure. Feeling "really great" about his speech, Biden expressed this on a Sunday. He spent his weekend at Camp David, the presidential hideout situated near Washington, fine-tuning his speech with his advisors.

Biden's political future hinges on Harris victoriously tackling Trump. If the Democrats fail to clinch the presidency in November, many will condemn Biden for persisting with his campaign after his lackluster performance versus Trump in June's debate.

Regardless, Biden can expect a hearty welcome from the Democrats at the convention. "I'm nostalgic," said LaurieBeth Hager from North Dakota on Sunday, extolling Biden as "an excellent president." "I'll need tissues tomorrow, but I'm also amazed at the political guts he displayed in making this decision."

The four-day extravaganza is being held under intense security, with 2,500 police officers on duty. The FBI, Secret Service, and local law enforcement have been preparing security measures around the venue for a year.

Lucas Rothaar from the FBI identified a "heightened risk level" for the convention. In July, Trump, the Republican nominee, was harmed in an assassination attempt at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania. Pro-Palestinian activist groups are planning massive protests against U.S. support for Israel during the conflict with the radical Islamic Palestinian movement Hamas in Gaza.

Speakers at the convention will feature First Lady Jill Biden, vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, and former presidents Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, as well as Bill Clinton. Harris' keynote speech is scheduled for Thursday, with Biden absent as he'll be embarking on a six-day vacation in California straight after his address on Monday.

The 59-year-old Harris has revitalized the campaign since Biden stepped down, resonating with young, female, and black voters. Initially appearing to be on an unstoppable path to victory, Trump has since struggled, resorting to personal insults and rambling speeches. On Saturday, the 78-year-old Republican attacked Harris again, referring to her as a "communist" and "crazy."

Harris subtly rebuked the Republican on Sunday. "Leaders who hate others are cowards," she declared at a campaign event in Pennsylvania.

During the Democratic convention, Trump will carry on his nationwide tour, conducting rallies in vital states such as Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Michigan.

Despite the ongoing criticism and Republicans' attacks, Biden can still count on support from the 'Other' Democrats who admire his decision-making skills. If Harris successfully takes over the presidency from Trump, many of Biden's critics may reconsider their views towards his 'Other' political choices.
