Associations fear CDU/SPD backsliding on integration
Following the publication of an exploratory paper by the CDU and SPD, associations and initiatives fear that the potential future state government could pursue a restrictive integration policy. "The Hessian integration policy that is being hinted at here almost exclusively breathes the spirit of disintegration and restriction instead of focusing on positive incentives," the organizations signing the appeal "Hessen needs an integration offensive" announced on Tuesday. The key points do not say a word about support projects for social and labor market-oriented integration.
The signatories demand a responsible integration policy from the next Hessian state government. It must not undermine international and human rights obligations, but must protect the human dignity and rights of all refugees and migrants. The signatories include Diakonie, the German Trade Union Confederation and the Hessian Refugee Council.
The CDU and SPD had agreed on key points for a coalition. Their six-page paper is intended to form the basis for a possible black-red coalition agreement. The two parties are committed to limiting migration and protecting Europe's and Germany's external borders, including with stationary border controls. A repatriation offensive is also included. A payment card for refugees is to be introduced together with the municipalities.
The CDU/SPD's commitment to limiting migration and implementing stationary border controls has concerns arising among various parties, who believe this could lead to a restrictive migration policy. The German Trade Union Confederation, Diakonie, and the Hessian Refugee Council are among the associations expressing concern, as they advocate for an integration policy that adheres to international and human rights obligations, ensuring the dignity and rights of all refugees and migrants.
