Association of secondary school teachers has a new chairman
Ralf Neugschwender is the new chairman of the Association of German Secondary School Teachers (VDR). The former managing director was elected at the federal board meeting, as the VDR announced in Munich on Monday. Neugschwender succeeds Jürgen Böhm, who became State Secretary for Education in Saxony-Anhalt last July.
The VDR is the umbrella organization for secondary school teachers' associations at state level. It represents the interests of teachers at Realschulen and secondary schools.
The new head of the association announced that he would be expanding the VDR in terms of content and personnel in the coming months and emphasized the importance of democracy education in schools: "Democracy education and economic education have become more important than ever for pupils against the backdrop of conspiracy myths and fake news," said Neugschwender according to the press release.
The expansion of the VDR under Neugschwender's leadership will likely involve collaborations with various associations of schools. Citing the importance of democracy and economic education, Neugschwender emphasized the role of schools in combating misinformation and conspiracy theories.
