Over the past few months, there's been a surge in tourists heading to Saxony-Anhalt. Various areas reported a growth in overnight stays during the initial part of this year, as per the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenverband, who disclosed the annual Sparkassen-Tourismusbarometer. Areas like Altmark and Elbe-Börde-Heide witnessed an uptick in tourists.

Fun and recreational spots also noted a rise in footfall compared to the first half of 2024. For instance, castles and palaces registered a four percent boost in visitors compared to the year prior. Conversely, the number of visitors to zoos and wildlife parks dipped by four percent.

Regardless of the growth and recovery, Saxony-Anhalt's tourism sector is urged to reevaluate, the association insisted. As per Ludger Weskamp, managing director of the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenverband, "We need to shift our perspective on tourism. Sustainable transformation isn't a fad, but the future that merits investment." Weskamp emphasized that sustainability is a factor Germans use to judge the caliber of lodgings.

The Ostdeutsche Sparkassenverband suggested that despite the growth in tourism, it's crucial for Saxony-Anhalt's tourism sector to reevaluate. According to the annual Sparkassen-Tourismusbarometer survey, this reevaluation includes considering the importance of sustainability in attracting tourists.
