Asisi shows new panorama in Leipzig

A new panorama by artist Yadegar Asisi will be on display at the Panometer in Leipzig from March 2024. For the first time, the Viennese-born artist painted a panorama in oil on a six-by-two-metre canvas in his Berlin studio and then digitized and printed the work in high resolution, the artist and the Panometer Leipzig announced on Thursday.

The 3500 square meter panorama "Monet's Cathedral" depicts the French city of Rouen at the end of the 19th century. In addition to Notre-Dame de Rouen Cathedral, famous painters such as the Dutchman Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) and the Frenchman Claude Monet (1840-1926) can also be seen.

The basis for the panorama was a series of panel paintings by Monet, which also show Notre-Dame du Rouen Cathedral, it was said. With his panorama, Asisi wanted to shed light on the development of art - including the influence of technology such as photography and artificial intelligence.

Asisi said in an interview with Deutsche Presse-Agentur that he wanted to give a deeper insight into his skills with the exhibition. "Outside of the panoramas, I have an oeuvre that nobody really knows. For example, I've been drawing since I was a child. But nobody is interested in that at the moment, because I'm known for panoramas, so they're shown." Over the past 20 years, the artist has created panoramas showing Mount Everest, animals and plants in the garden and the Battle of Leipzig, among others.

In addition to the current panorama, a further 100 works by Asisi will reportedly be on display in the exhibition. The opening of the exhibition at Panometer Leipzig is planned for March 16, 2024. A Panometer showing New York shortly before the attack in 2001 is currently on display there.

The Panometer in Leipzig was the first of its kind to open in 2003. There are now other panometers, including in Dresden, Pforzheim and Lutherstadt Wittenberg.

This upcoming Art Exhibition at the Panometer in Leipzig will feature "Monet's Cathedral," a new panorama by Yadegar Asisi. Visitors can expect to see not only the notable Notre-Dame de Rouen Cathedral but also famous artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet within the artwork.

As part of the exhibition, Asisi intends to showcase his lesser-known skills outside of panoramas, such as his drawing abilities that have been prevalent since his childhood, as mentioned in an interview with Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
