Heidelberg: city in Germany - Artists at a queer festival targeted with rock-throwing attacks.
A band of young adults allegedly assaulted three artists from the Performance Theater Heidelberg following a performance at the Heidelberg Gay Pride Festival. As per the theater, the performers were at first hurled derogatory comments aimed at their gender identifications and sexual orientations, then pelted with stones and physically attacked. Officers have received a complaint regarding the incident, as per a statement issued by police on Wednesday. Investigators will be working closely with the local prosecutor's office. The "Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung" had previously publicized this news.
It is stated that this gang of attackers had earlier been banned from entering the property, as per a joint declaration from the theater officials, festival organizers, and the event venue Karlstorbahnhof on Instagram. This incident supposedly took place on Sunday. The severity of injuries sustained by the artists at the beginning was unknown, according to the police who expressed no further comment.
"Queer" is a term used to refer to individuals who are non-heterosexual or those who refuse to conform to the typical male or female gender roles or societal standards concerning gender and sexuality.
The Heidelberg Gay Pride Festival, founded in 2009, is the initial such event held in Germany. It is described as a celebration of queer culture, a community gathering, and a festival promoting diversity and tolerance.
