- Artist and previous goalkeeper Rudi Kargus showcases fresh creations in exhibit
Football veteran and artist Rudi Kargus showcases fresh creations at Hamburg's Holthoff Gallery, starting from Aug 30th (30.8.). His exhibition titled "powerful" spans until Oct 18th. Kargus' grand-scale paintings, predominantly oil on canvas, carry titles like "A Better World" and "Sphinx", along with "Amsterdam". Frequently, they encompass figures with contorted faces and muted colors.
The gallery shares insights on the exhibition, stating, "If we can decode Kargus' artistic language, we unveil a visual universe that embodies sorrow, torment, loss, and fractures. Perhaps, it also hints towards his past and aspirations for the future." The 72-year-old Kargus, who dwells in Quickborn, served as a goalkeeper for Hamburg, achieving his prime accomplishments as well as for Nuremberg, Karlsruhe, Düsseldorf, and Cologne from 1971 to 1990, counting a total of 408 first division games and 19 second division appearances. He refers to this phase as his "first chapter".
Now, art is his life's purpose. Apart from numerous exhibitions in the Hamburg district, he has showcased his work in Mannheim, Vienna, and Düsseldorf. He has been partnering with the Holthoff Gallery since 2009. "I am not just a former athlete turned artist with a paintbrush," Kargus once expressed, "but a genuine, serious painter. Authentic and sincere."
Rudi Kargus' time as a goalkeeper for Hamburg, during which he achieved significant accomplishments, might inspire new Soccer-themed paintings in his future work. Visitors to Kargus' exhibition at Holthoff Gallery might appreciate seeing a Soccer-related piece, showcasing his skill in portraying various subjects.
