Lindenau Museum: A cultural institution worth exploring - Art show displaying blaze and hues in Altenburg
The Altenburg Lindenau Museum will showcase the work of painter and graphic artist Walter Jacob (1893-1964) in a new light through a large art exhibition at the Prince's Palace of the Residence Castle titled "Fire and Color." This exhibition, which starts on Sunday, will highlight the work of the native Altenburg artist, spanning his entire career.
In 1993, the museum had displayed a significant retrospective of Jacob's art. This time, about 50 pieces from the period between 1913 and 1962 will be on display, offering an in-depth view of his artistic development. Jacob's art is known for its keen observation of nature, with the artist often finding inspiration in the countryside, mountains, and sea to capture the beauty and power of plants and animals. While his early artworks bear the influences of Expressionism, his later works evolved into abstract landscapes expressed using a modern form of language.
The show will include art pieces from the museum's collection, as well as loans from the City Gallery Dresden and various private collections. Open to the public until August 25, the exhibition has been made possible largely due to the cooperative efforts of Jacob's family, who take care of the expansive Walter Jacob estate.
The show will be further enhanced by photographs that document the different stages of the artist's life.
