- Arson at a cement factory under suspected radical intentions
Following a blaze at a concreting facility in Munich, authorities are pondering an "extremist angle" as a potential cause. The Munich Public Prosecutor's Office is delving into the case of arson from various perspectives and examining if this fire is linked to other incidents in the vicinity.
Historically, Munich and its environs have experienced multiple blazes - incidents at construction sites, geothermal and railway plants, as well as radio towers. The Public Prosecutor's Office has previously handled cases with extremist concerns involved. Recently, a cleaning train in Munich suffered a fire.
In the latest occurrence, as reported by police, several vehicles at the concreting plant's state capital location went up in flames during the night. Furthermore, the top of a silo ignited through a flaming conveyor belt, with the flames spreading to cardboard boxes at a neighboring waste disposal site. The damage reportedly amounted to millions, according to firefighters. Fortunately, no casualties were reported initially.
The Munich Public Prosecutor's Office, being responsible for such cases, is now investigating the incident at the concreting facility under the lens of potential extremist involvement, given its history with similar concerns. Given the seriousness of the damage and the potential ties to previous incidents in Munich, the Office of the Prosecutor General may decide to take a leading role in the investigation.
