Arrests at demonstration for ceasefire in Gaza in Frankfurt
Nine people were arrested at a pro-Palestinian rally and subsequent demonstration in Frankfurt/Main on Friday. Investigation proceedings were initiated on suspicion of incitement to hatred, the use of unconstitutional signs and the suspicion of depicting violence, among other things, as the police announced in the evening.
Up to 850 people took part in the demonstration in Frankfurt city center under the slogan "Ceasefire in Gaza".
According to the police, they seized a sign with "SS runes" and arrested the woman carrying it. Another woman held up a poster depicting the flag of the state of Israel in a garbage can - and the words "Keep the world clean". The sign was also seized and the woman was reportedly charged with suspected incitement to hatred.
The protests in Frankfurt led to several conflicts, with the police citing incidents of incitement to hatred and unconstitutional sign usage during the demonstrations for a ceasefire in Gaza. Further conflicts arose as a result of the seizure of signs depicting controversial symbols and messages, such as a poster showing the Israeli flag in a garbage can.
