Arrest - Arrest warrant for 24-year-old after Neutorturm fire

One and a half months after the Neutower fire in Arnstadt, a warrant for the arrest of the 24-year-old suspect was issued. He was transferred to a detention center on a Tuesday, the police reported. The damage to the tower is estimated to be around 500,000 Euro.

There was a fire at the tower on April 14th, and the dome of the 15th century tower was burned down. There had already been other fires at the building the night before the fire, as stated in earlier police reports. Additionally, a swastika graffiti was discovered later on the historic city wall near the tower. It was unclear whether there was a connection between the graffiti and the fire at first. A search warrant was served on the 24-year-old suspect from Arnstadt on the same day.

The reconstruction of the Neutower had already begun about a week after the fire. The city had set up a donation account for this purpose. The tower is one of the landmarks of Arnstadt - Thuringia's oldest town with a first mention in the year 704.

The 24-year-old suspect, linked to the arson at the Neutower in Arnstadt, now has a monumental issue on his hands with an arrest warrant issued against him. Despite the ongoing reconstruction efforts, the police in Thuringia continue their investigations, aiming to apprehend the individual responsible for the series of fires at the historic monument. The discovery of a swastika graffiti nearby the tower adds a disturbing layer to this complex case, raising concerns about potential hate motives behind the arson attacks.
